About Michael A.
Michael A. Robinson earned his B.S. in political science from Radford University in 2001 and went on to receive a J.D. from Regent University School of Law in 2006. Those years framed his early interest in trial work and public service. The combination of an undergraduate grounding in government and a law degree showed through in the first roles he took after law school.
He began his legal career in public prosecution. In 2006 he served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Lawyer in the Newport News Commonwealth’s Lawyer’s Office. That role put him in court frequently. He handled arraignments, preliminary hearings and trial preparation for a range of criminal matters. In 2008 he moved to the Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Lawyer’s Office, again as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Lawyer, continuing the hands-on courtroom work.
Later in 2008 he left public prosecution and founded Robinson Law, PLLC. He serves as the firm’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Establishing a private practice shifted his caseload from representing the state to representing individuals. At Robinson Law he has managed cases through investigation, negotiation and trial. His experience on both sides of the courtroom gives him perspective on how prosecutions are prepared and defended.
Robinson’s professional memberships reflect particular interests in trial and DUI defense work. He holds memberships in the Fairfax Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association since 2008. Since 2013 he has also been a member of the American Bar Association, the National Academy of DUI Lawyers and the National College of DUI Defense. Those affiliations indicate continuing engagement with developments in criminal procedure, trial advocacy and impaired-driving law.
Colleagues describe him as deliberate in court and thorough in preparation. He has handled a spectrum of criminal matters, from traffic and misdemeanor offenses to more serious felony charges. In practice he balances courtroom advocacy with negotiations, and he prepares witnesses and exhibits for trial when cases proceed that far. His prior work for commonwealth’s offices informs how he evaluates evidence and assesses risks at each stage of a case.
Robinson now practices in Virginia and maintains an active role at Robinson Law, PLLC. He participates in local bar activities and the national DUI defense community. He currently represents clients in criminal defense and DUI matters throughout Virginia.
