About Mia S
Mia S. McPherson built a legal path that began in the classroom and moved quickly into courtrooms. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Purdue University in 1995 and completed her law degree at DePaul College of Law in 1998. Those years set the framework for a practice grounded in public service and courtroom work.
Her first position after law school was as an assistant public defender in DuPage County. She took on that role in 1998 and spent her early years handling cases for clients who could not afford private counsel. The work shaped her courtroom instincts and gave her sustained exposure to trial practice. In 2004 she shifted to private practice as a staff lawyer at an Elmhurst law office, gaining experience on the other side of the case file and broadening her procedural and client-handling skills.
In 2009 she opened her own firm, The Law Offices of Mia S. McPherson, P.C. Running a small practice required juggling casework, client relations and the daily business of a law office. Seven years later she joined McPherson Harry & Associates, P.C. as a partner in 2016, combining solo-practice experience with a larger firm platform. That trajectory — public defender, staff attorney, solo practitioner and partner — gives her a perspective that spans court-appointed work and private representation.
McPherson is active within the local legal community. She serves on multiple committees of the DuPage County Bar Association, including criminal law, family law and local government, and participates in the association’s public information and education commission. She holds a leadership role as vice president of the DuPage Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and is a member of the DuPage Justinian Society of Lawyers and the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce. The committee work keeps her connected to developments in criminal and family practice and to local government issues that sometimes intersect with court cases.
Her courtroom background and bar association involvement inform the types of matters she handles. Over the years she has returned repeatedly to criminal defense work while also addressing issues that touch family law and municipal matters. She operates from The Law Offices of Mia S. McPherson, P.C., and continues to accept matters that reflect her years in public defense and private practice.
She practices in Illinois and maintains an active local presence, focusing her current work on criminal defense and related civil matters.
