About Melvin J.

Melvin J. Babi trained in finance before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Finance from Wayne State University and later took his legal degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2006. Those academic steps set the pattern for a career that crosses transactional work and courtroom practice.

After law school he moved into practice in Michigan and expanded his ability to appear in federal matters. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and is authorized to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He has also maintained a license as a real estate agent, a credential that informs parts of his practice.

His professional path includes the establishment of Babi Legal Group, PLLC, where he has served as a lawyer since 2010. At the firm he has handled a range of matters that draw on both his legal training and his background in finance. His membership in the Chaldean American Bar Association dates to 2007 and continues today, reflecting a long-standing engagement with a local legal community and its networks.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and pragmatic in client discussions. He has represented clients in state courts and in filings before federal tribunals permitted by his admissions. His work has involved transactional reviews, contract matters, and litigation strategy that calls on an understanding of corporate finance principles in addition to legal doctrine.

Outside the courtroom he has used his real estate license to provide practical advice on property transactions that intersect with legal concerns. That dual perspective—legal and real estate—can simplify dealings for clients who face overlapping issues, from contract language to closing details.

He remains based at Babi Legal Group, PLLC, where he handles matters that require appearances in both state and federal venues. His practice covers litigation in Michigan courts, filings before the Sixth Circuit and the Eastern District of Michigan, and matters involving real estate transactions and related legal issues. He currently handles state and federal matters and real estate-related work through his practice.
