About Melissa K.

Melissa K. Hancock built a career that moved from the classroom to the courtroom. She began her higher education at Florida State University’s Panama City campus, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1997. After several years, she returned to Tallahassee to study law and received her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law in 2003.

Her first legal position came the same year she finished law school. She joined Blanchard, Merriam, Adel & Kirkland, P.A. as an associate attorney. The role provided hands-on experience in family law matters and courtroom procedure. She spent years handling contested hearings, settlement negotiations and client counseling. Those early years shaped how she approaches cases and clients now.

In 2015 she struck out on her own, establishing the Law Office of Melissa K. Hancock. The move put her in the position of managing both cases and a small practice. Running a solo practice meant wearing many hats: attorney, case manager and client advocate. It also meant continuity for clients who wanted direct access to the lawyer managing their file.

Hancock is a Board Certified Specialist in Marital and Family Law by The Florida Bar. That certification indicates she has met standards for experience and peer review in family law. Her work covers divorce, child custody and child support matters, as well as equitable distribution and related domestic issues. She appears in county courts for hearings and mediations, and prepares agreements and pleadings for trial when settlement is not possible.

Colleagues describe her approach as pragmatic. She tends to favor thorough preparation and clear explanation over dramatic courtroom tactics. Clients receive straightforward assessments of options and likely outcomes. Cases often involve sensitive family dynamics, and Hancock aims to keep the process as direct and manageable as possible.

Outside the office she has been involved in the local legal community through practice and participation in professional activities. Her practice model reflects an interest in long-term client relationships. People who work with her tend to get steady attention from the attorney rather than repeated handoffs to junior staff.

Today she practices under the name Melissa K. Hancock, P.A., handling marital and family law matters in Florida. Her current practice focuses on divorce, child custody and related family law issues.
