About Melba C. Rivera

Melba C. Rivera Sotomayor earned her law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico in 2015 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Puerto Rico - Ponce in 2012. She entered the profession in the years that followed, building a practice that crosses territorial and federal lines. Her academic background in Puerto Rico provided the foundation for work that spans jurisdictions.

Rivera Sotomayor is admitted to practice in Florida and Puerto Rico. She also holds admission to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Her bar memberships and federal admission allow her to handle matters that may begin in one forum and move to another. She is a current member of The Florida Bar.

Her professional home is Friedman Rodman Frank & Estrada, P.A., where she serves as an attorney. At the firm she has handled filings, court appearances and client counseling. Her role requires regular coordination of procedural and substantive issues across state and federal systems. Colleagues describe her work as attentive to deadlines and procedural detail.

Rivera Sotomayor’s practice experience is rooted in courtroom procedure and client representation. She has appeared in filings before state courts in Puerto Rico and Florida and in federal proceedings in the Southern District of Florida. That mix means she often moves between litigation mechanics and client-facing strategy. She prepares pleadings, manages discovery and argues procedural matters, while also advising clients on options for dispute resolution.

Outside of day-to-day casework, she maintains active professional membership through The Florida Bar. That connection keeps her plugged into continuing legal education and the regulatory developments that affect practitioners in Florida. It also supports cross-jurisdictional matters, where rules and local practice can differ.

Rivera Sotomayor’s education and admissions position her to serve clients whose issues touch both Puerto Rico and Florida courts. She manages the procedural demands of multi-jurisdictional disputes and handles federal filings when a matter proceeds to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She is an attorney at Friedman Rodman Frank & Estrada, P.A., practicing in matters that span Florida and Puerto Rico and in the Southern District of Florida federal court.
