About Melaney

Melaney LaGrone built a legal path through municipal work, courtroom experience and private practice. She trained first as a criminal justice student and then returned to law school later in her career. That mix of public and private roles shows in the kinds of matters she handles today.

LaGrone earned a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2011. She holds a Master of Science in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, awarded in 2008, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Detroit Mercy, conferred in 1993. The sequence reflects a long interest in public service and the institutions that shape it.

Her early career included work in Fulton County where she served as a district lawyer in 2015. That position placed her inside the daily operations of a county legal system and exposed her to both criminal and civil proceedings. In 2017 she launched LaGrone Law, LLC and has served as the firm’s managing lawyer since. Running a small firm required shifting between casework, client counseling and the administrative responsibilities of practice management.

Across those roles she developed experience in matters that touch on immigration and public law. Her membership in the American Immigration Lawyers Association, which she joined in 2017, signals ongoing involvement with immigration practice and related policy issues. She is admitted to practice in Michigan, the Virgin Islands and Georgia, and she holds memberships in the State Bar of Michigan (since 2011), the State Bar of Georgia (since 2014) and the Virgin Islands State Bar (since 2021). Those affiliations reflect a career that spans state and territorial jurisdictions and involves work across different legal systems.

People who have worked with LaGrone note a steady approach to casework and an interest in how procedural details affect outcomes. Her background in public administration surfaces in case strategy and in how she organizes representation for clients who face complex administrative processes. The mix of municipal experience, private-practice management and immigration association membership gives her a practical grounding in matters that cross local and federal lines.

LaGrone practices from LaGrone Law, LLC, where she handles individual and institutional matters that frequently involve immigration-related issues and administrative law. She currently concentrates her practice on immigration and related civil matters.
