About Maxfield (Max)
Maxfield (Max) Neuhaus built a career that bridges courtroom work, mediation and community service. He began his academic path at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, earning a Bachelor of Science and completing graduate studies in a Masters in Education program. He later earned a J.D. from Hamline University School of Law.
Early in his legal training he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Edward F. Vlack in Branch II of the St. Croix County Circuit Court in 2007. That experience led to a steady record of public service. He was appointed city prosecutor for Hudson in 2010 and accepted a role as an adjunct business law professor at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls the same year. In 2011 he served as a judge-appointed special prosecutor in St. Croix County.
The next several years brought a variety of court appointments. He was appointed a judge-appointed mediator in St. Croix and Pierce counties in 2012 and later accepted appointments as judge-appointed trustee and guardian ad litem in 2014. Also in 2014 he worked as a special investigator for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In 2015 he served on the editorial board of Wisconsin Lawyer.
Neuhaus is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and before the Federal Circuit. He is a Qualified Neutral for Mediation under the Minnesota Supreme Court. Those credentials underpin a practice that moves between litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He has acted in prosecutorial roles, taken court-appointed positions in probate and guardianship matters, and repeatedly accepted mediation assignments.
Outside the courtroom he has held a number of community and civic posts. He served as a director and chairman of the River Falls Chamber of Commerce and as director and president of the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation. He was a founding director of the River Falls Education Foundation and has been active with the River Falls Public Library Foundation and River Falls Public Library groups. He served on the St. Croix Valley Restorative Justice Program board and led the St. Croix Valley Bar Association, including a term as its president from 2012 to 2013. He also served as a director of First National Bank from 2013 to 2015 and held public office on the School District of River Falls from 1997 to 2002.
He is a partner at Rodli, Beskar, Neuhaus, Murray and Pletcher, S.C. He currently practices at that firm, handling litigation, mediation and business law matters.
