About Matthew
Matthew White built his path to the law through a mix of liberal arts training and three years of law school. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Western Washington University in 2005. He then enrolled at California Western School of Law in 2009 and received his J.D. in 2012.
After law school he moved into private practice. He began his legal career at South Sound Law Group in 2012 and has remained with the firm. Over time he has taken on the steady, day-to-day work that keeps a small firm operating: client counseling, motion practice and courtroom appearances when necessary. He combines courtroom experience with the case management and client communication that small-firm work demands.
His practice spans two jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in California and Washington and manages matters that involve the laws of both states. That dual-jurisdiction practice means balancing different procedural rules and state-specific deadlines. It also means frequent coordination with local courts and colleagues in each place.
Beyond his firm duties, White has invested time in local and civic bar organizations. He has been a member of the Tacoma-Pierce Bounty Bar Association since 2013. Since 2018 he has held membership in Citizens for Judicial Excellence. Those memberships reflect an interest in the local legal community and in the institutions that shape court systems and judicial practice.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in his preparation. He tends to approach matters one step at a time: identify the issue, assemble the record, and then proceed to advocacy. That approach fits the steady pace of the cases he handles at South Sound Law Group. He is comfortable in hearings and in negotiating settlements when the situation calls for it.
Outside the office, his professional footprint is modest and local. He has not sought high-profile litigation or frequent media appearances. Instead, he appears to have focused on delivering day-to-day legal services for clients who need representation across the Pacific Northwest.
He continues to practice at South Sound Law Group, handling matters in California and Washington as part of the firm’s ongoing work.
