About Matthew P.

Matthew P. Kelley trained in two very different classrooms. He earned a B.A. from Davidson College in 2002 and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2005. Those years laid out the basics — research, courtroom procedure and the habits of long days in practice.

He stepped into public service immediately after law school. In 2005 he served as Chief District Court Prosecutor and Assistant District Lawyer in the Cape and Islands District Lawyer's Office. That early role put him in front of juries and judges, handling initial appearances, arraignments and trial calendars. The work shaped his view of the criminal justice system and gave him steady courtroom time at the outset of his career.

After several years in the public sector he moved into private practice. In 2011 he worked at the Law Offices of James B. Stinson, where he took on a range of matters typical for a small firm practice. In 2017 he opened his own office, operating as Matthew P. Kelley, Lawyer at Law. Running a solo practice forced him to handle both substantive law and the many practical demands of managing client files, court deadlines and the business side of a law office.

Kelley has maintained ties to the legal community through association memberships. He has been a member of the Barnstable County Bar Association since 2012. He also joined the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2017 and remains active in those organizations. The memberships indicate regular engagement with local and state bar networks and access to continuing legal education and professional resources.

His experience spans courtroom roles on both sides of the aisle: prosecutorial work early on and later private practice. That mix has translated into trial experience and routine appearances in Massachusetts courts. Colleagues and clients see a lawyer who is familiar with motions practice, court procedures and the pace of contested hearings. He practices under the name Matthew P. Kelley, Lawyer at Law in Massachusetts and continues to represent clients in state court matters. He currently focuses his practice on trial and court representation in Massachusetts.
