About Matthew

Matthew Newborn trained as a criminal justice student and went on to study law. He earned a B.S. in criminal justice from St. John’s University in 1983, then a J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1989. Those academic steps set the stage for a career split between state and federal practice in the Northeast.

He began handling personal injury matters in the late 1990s. In 1998 he worked as a personal injury lawyer at Feldman, Kramer & Monaco, P.C., where he handled claims and litigated cases on behalf of injured clients. Over time his practice expanded geographically, and he added licensing in multiple jurisdictions, including New York and its federal districts.

By the 2000s he had established a presence in northern New England. He is admitted to practice in New Hampshire and Vermont as well as in New York and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Those admissions have allowed him to handle a mix of state-level and federal matters across borders.

Newborn has been a member of several professional organizations that reflect his practice areas and regional ties. He joined the Vermont Bar Association in 2009 and has participated in related local bar activities. He became a member of the Vermont Association for Justice in 2010, and the New Hampshire Association for Justice in 2011. He is also a member of the Cheshire County Bar Association, joining that group in 2015.

His current practice operates under Newborn Law, PLLC. The firm maintains a main office where he sees clients and handles case work. He continues to represent individuals in personal injury matters and in workers’ compensation cases, taking on both negotiations and courtroom work when needed. The practice has a multi-state footprint, reflecting his admissions in New York, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Clients and colleagues describe him as a practitioner who manages the everyday demands of trial preparation and claims handling. He draws on decades of experience in tort and injury law and on practical knowledge of the procedural differences between state and federal courts in the region. He remains active in state and regional bar groups and in local legal circles.

He currently practices at Newborn Law, PLLC, handling personal injury and workers’ compensation matters.
