About Matthew Lane
Matthew Lane Kreitzer grew up considering the law as a practical way to help neighbors and families resolve real problems. He earned his J.D. from William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2013, where he took courses in family law and prepared for courtroom work. The classroom years gave him exposure to client advocacy and trial procedure.
His career began in support roles and moved quickly into attorney positions. In 2014 he worked as a legal assistant at Crouch & Crouch PLC and also took a lawyer position that year at The Andrews Law Office. Those early assignments gave him regular contact with litigants and judges and a steady introduction to Virginia practice. In 2015 he joined Booth & McCarthy as an associate lawyer, handling a variety of matters under supervision and gaining more trial experience.
By 2017 Kreitzer's path split between firm work and solo practice. He was an associate at Lawson & Silek for part of that year and also established his own practice, Matthew L. Kreitzer, Lawyer at Law. The move to open a solo office reflected a desire to manage cases from intake through disposition and to provide direct representation in the courtroom. He represents clients in state and federal proceedings in the Fourth Circuit and maintains active practice in Virginia.
Kreitzer is certified as a guardian ad litem by the Supreme Court of Virginia. That credential allows him to accept court appointments to represent the interests of children in custody and related proceedings. Over time he has taken on a mix of appointed and retained matters, combining negotiation and courtroom advocacy when cases require it.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in approach. He structures cases so the facts are clear for judges and opposing counsel. He tends to favor focused preparation and orderly presentation in hearings. Outside the office he maintains professional memberships and stays involved in continuing legal education to keep current on developments in family law and procedural rules.
Today he practices from his own firm, handling litigation, custody matters, and guardian ad litem appointments across Virginia. He accepts cases in state courts and appears in matters within the Fourth Circuit as needed, and he continues to serve clients through his practice, Matthew L. Kreitzer, Lawyer at Law, focusing on family law and related proceedings.
