About Matthew L

Matthew L Fabisch graduated from Roger Williams University School of Law and began his legal career in Rhode Island. He spent a year clerking in the Rhode Island Supreme Court’s law clerk department, an early role that exposed him to appellate briefing and the internal workings of the state’s highest court. That experience shaped how he approaches legal writing and procedure.

After his clerkship he joined Smith & Brink, P.C. as an associate. He handled trial preparation and client matters that ranged across civil disputes and estate issues. Within a short time he set out on his own path, establishing Fabisch Law, L.L.C., and serving as its managing lawyer starting in 2010. The firm’s work combined courtroom practice with counseling clients on probate and estate matters.

In 2013 he accepted an elected municipal role and served as probate judge for the Town of Smithfield, Rhode Island. That position required both legal analysis and administrative oversight of probate filings, guardianship petitions and related proceedings. Serving as a local judge added a judicial perspective to his practice. It also deepened his familiarity with Rhode Island’s probate rules and the practical issues that arise when estates and family matters move from negotiation to the courtroom.

Fabisch is admitted to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and he is authorized to appear in the First Circuit. He holds memberships in the Rhode Island Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and participates in the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Supreme Court Bench/Bar Committee and Probate/Trust Committee. He also works with public-interest organizations as a cooperating lawyer for the Institute for Justice Human Action Network and the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. Those affiliations reflect an interest in civil liberties and procedural fairness as much as they signal involvement in the wider bar community.

Colleagues describe a practice that blends litigation skills and probate knowledge. He has handled contested estate matters and advised on trust administration, and he represents clients in civil disputes when litigation becomes necessary. His background clerking at the appellate level and later serving on the bench informs how he prepares for hearings and structures legal arguments.

Fabisch maintains offices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and continues to take cases in both states. He currently handles probate, estate planning, trust administration and related civil litigation from his Rhode Island and Massachusetts offices.
