About Matthew
Matthew Kensky graduated from James Madison University in 1991 with a B.A. in political science and earned his J.D. from George Mason University in 1999. He entered the legal profession at a moment when courtroom work and public service still drew many new lawyers. His early path reflected that mix. He began his career in public defense the same year he finished law school, joining the Fairfax County Office of the Public Defender as a Senior Assistant Public Defender.
That initial experience placed him in front of juries and judges from the outset. By 2004 he was a Senior Associate handling criminal and traffic defense matters at MacDowell Law Group PC. The role expanded his trial experience and cemented an interest in contested cases. Over the next decade he moved into private practice and partnership roles, including a stint as a partner at Borjian & Kensky Law Group, PLLC in 2020 and as a partner at the Law Offices of Matthew Kensky, PLLC in 2021.
In 2024 he joined Scrofano Law PC as a Senior Trial Lawyer. The move brought him into a firm environment where he continued to handle criminal and traffic cases and to appear regularly in Virginia courts. He has maintained membership in local legal organizations during his career, including the Fairfax County Bar Association. His record also shows participation in the American Inn of Court during 1998–1999.
His courtroom work has been steady rather than headline-grabbing. He has developed practical skills in case preparation, cross-examination and plea negotiations. He handles misdemeanor and felony cases, as well as traffic matters that can carry license and insurance consequences. Former public defender experience informs how he evaluates charges and prepares defenses.
Colleagues describe him as a practitioner who prefers concrete results to rhetoric. He has alternated between solo and firm practice, and that variety shaped how he approaches client communication and case strategy. He supervises trial preparation and coordinates with investigators and experts when cases require it.
Kensky is licensed to practice in Virginia and began his trial practice in the late 1990s. He continues to represent clients at Scrofano Law PC, where his work centers on criminal defense and traffic-related cases.
