About Matthew John

Matthew John Golden built a legal path that began inside a law school classroom and moved quickly into courtroom work. He earned his J.D. from Campbell Law School, where classmates and professors remember him for his steady approach to litigation and courtroom procedure. He entered the practical side of law determined to practice in North Carolina.

After graduating, Golden joined the state bar and became active in the local legal community. He has been a member of the North Carolina State Bar since 2011 and of the Wake County Bar Association since the same year. Those memberships framed the first phase of a career spent in criminal defense, where he learned the rhythms of trial preparation and client advocacy.

In 2015 he joined the American Institute of DUI/DWI Lawyers, an organization that connects attorneys who handle driving-related charges. A year later he earned recognition from The National Trial Lawyers, appearing on its list of Top 100 Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers beginning in 2016. These affiliations reflect the practical emphasis of his work: contested hearings, plea negotiations, and trials.

Golden later founded his own firm, Matthew J. Golden, Lawyer at Law, PLLC. He opened the practice to provide focused representation in criminal matters. As founder and principal, he oversees case strategy and client intake. He manages day-to-day operations and remains involved in courtroom work.

Clients and colleagues describe Golden as a lawyer who prefers plain talk. He prepares arraignments, motions and trial briefs. He argues evidentiary questions and handles sentencing hearings. He represents people charged with a range of offenses, from misdemeanor traffic cases to felony-level charges. DUI and DWI cases figure prominently in his caseload, an area that requires both procedural attention and familiarity with scientific testimony.

Outside the courtroom he stays connected to peers through professional groups. His sustained bar membership and local association ties keep him current on ethics, rules and state procedures. He has been part of organized lawyer networks for more than a decade.

Today Matthew John Golden continues to practice in North Carolina. He balances litigation and client counseling at his firm and handles criminal defense and DUI/DWI matters in state courts.
