About Matthew J.

Matthew J. Turchyn built a layered legal education before entering practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan in 2009, studying political science, economics and music. He went on to law school at Michigan State University College of Law and received his J.D. in 2012.

He began his professional career the same year as an associate lawyer at Hertz Schram PC. That early role put him into the day-to-day demands of litigation and client counseling. He has since maintained an active presence in the Michigan bar community, balancing courtroom work with professional association service.

Turchyn is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and holds admission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Those admissions have allowed him to handle matters in both state and federal forums. He has experience drafting pleadings, responding to motions and appearing on behalf of clients in contested proceedings.

Service in professional organizations has been a steady part of his career. Since 2015 he has served in the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly. He joined the Oakland County Bar Association in 2012 and became a barrister in the Oakland County Bar Association American Inn of Court in 2015. Those memberships reflect ongoing engagement with local practitioners and continuing legal education programs.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who pays attention to process. He combines a methodical approach to legal writing with an effort to keep clients informed about case developments. He has handled matters in multiple court settings and adapts to procedural differences between state and federal practice.

Outside the courtroom, Turchyn’s undergraduate background in political science and economics informs how he frames legal issues, while his study of music has provided an unexpected counterpoint to legal analysis. He continues to participate in bar governance and local Inns of Court programming, contributing to discussions on professional responsibility and practice management.

He currently practices in Michigan and appears in both state and federal courts, including the Eastern District of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit.
