About Matthew J.

Matthew J. Landa charted an academic course that combined law, politics and economics. He earned dual undergraduate degrees from the University of San Diego, completing a B.A. in Political Science and a B.B.A. in Business Economics in 2009. He went on to law school at Boston College, receiving his J.D. in 2013, and later returned to the University of San Diego for an LL.M., conferred in 2016.

The sequence of degrees reflects a deliberate blending of disciplines. The political science study supplied a broad view of public institutions. The business economics training added analytical tools for assessing markets and transactions. The J.D. provided core legal training. The LL.M. offered further specialization and an opportunity to revisit legal theory and practice from a graduate perspective.

After completing his formal studies, Landa entered private practice. He serves as an associate at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP. He is admitted to practice in California and holds current membership in the State Bar of California. In his role at the firm he works on matters that arise under state law and collaborates with colleagues across practice areas on client work. He has handled projects that require combining legal research, document drafting and practical problem solving for clients operating in California.

Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He leans on his interdisciplinary background when evaluating issues that cross legal and economic lines. That background informs how he frames questions for clients and how he structures legal analysis. He applies academic training to the daily work of counseling clients and preparing transactional and advisory materials.

Today he maintains an active practice as an associate at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP. His current practice centers on advising businesses and individuals on legal and economic issues that arise in the California marketplace.
