About Matthew J.
Matthew J. Fogelman began his professional path in the humanities before turning to the law. He earned a B.A. in English from Wesleyan University in 1997 and went on to receive his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2002. Those years shaped his approach to legal writing and analysis, skills that would carry him into a courtroom career.
Fresh out of law school he joined Bingham as an associate in 2002. He spent the early years of his practice developing litigation skills and learning the mechanics of trial preparation. In 2005 he moved to Todd & Weld, again as an associate, where he continued to handle civil matters and refined his courtroom experience. Eight years into his career he founded his own firm. In 2010 he opened Fogelman Law LLC and took on the responsibilities of a founding partner.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and is licensed in Massachusetts and New York. Those admissions allow him to handle matters at multiple levels of the federal and state systems. His background includes trial work and appellate filings, reflecting a practice that spans different stages of litigation.
Outside of day-to-day casework he participates in professional organizations. He holds memberships in the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Massachusetts Employment Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Associations, and the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce Lawyers’ Committee. Those affiliations provide professional contacts and forums for staying current on litigation trends and employment law developments.
Over the years his work has centered on employment and civil litigation. He handles disputes that move through pretrial investigation, motion practice, and trial when necessary. He also prepares appellate briefs and appears in higher courts when cases raise legal questions that extend beyond a single trial. Colleagues describe his practice as litigation-oriented, covering both advocacy and the drafting tasks that litigation requires.
As a founding partner at Fogelman Law LLC he manages client matters and oversees the firm’s litigation strategy. He balances court appearances with the office work of briefing and client counseling. He concentrates his practice on employment and civil litigation matters.
