About Matthew David
Matthew David Dotzler built his legal foundation through a mix of academic study and early courtroom work. He earned a B.S. from the State University of New York at College at Brockport in 2000. He then completed a J.D. at SUNY Buffalo Law School in 2003 and added an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2007. Those degrees gave him both legal training and business perspective.
Dotzler began his career in public service. In 2008 he joined the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district lawyer. That period supplied regular courtroom work and direct exposure to the procedural demands of New York trial practice. It also put him on the front lines of state-level prosecutions and hearings.
He moved into private practice later and became a partner at Carden Dotzler Hammond, PLLC in 2015. As a partner he handled a range of matters that required courtroom experience and client counseling. The role expanded his practice-side experience and deepened his familiarity with negotiations, motions work and courtroom procedure across local courts.
In 2022 he co-founded The New York Traffic Ticket Lawyers and took the title of founding partner. The firm was established to handle traffic-ticket matters across New York. Since then he has focused his practice on representing drivers and addressing state traffic proceedings, administrative hearings and related court appearances.
Colleagues note that his background in a county prosecutor’s office and years in private practice shape how he approaches cases. He has experience conducting hearings, arguing motions and negotiating case resolutions. That combination of prosecution and defense exposure informs his courtroom strategy and his interactions with prosecutors and hearing officers.
Outside the courtroom his MBA background informs how he manages a small firm and advises clients about practical consequences such as fines, points and insurance implications. He has continued to practice in New York and maintains an active role in casework, supervising litigation and handling trials when required. He currently practices at The New York Traffic Ticket Lawyers, where his practice focuses on traffic-ticket defense and related state-level matters.
