About Matt
Matt Balmuth began his academic journey on the West Coast. He earned a Bachelor of Science in economics with a minor in philosophy from the University of California, San Diego in 2005. He returned to California for law school, completing his Juris Doctor at Southwestern University School of Law in 2013. Those years combined study of markets, logic and legal doctrine, and they shaped the way he approaches legal problems.
After law school, Balmuth entered private practice. In 2013 he worked as an associate at Mesriani Law Group. That role gave him early exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of a practicing attorney, including client communication and case preparation. Later that year he joined Free Legal Consultation as a lawyer. The move brought him closer to intake work and direct client advising in a smaller office setting.
Balmuth’s background blends economic training and legal education. His undergraduate study in economics left an emphasis on analytic thinking and quantitative reasoning. His minor in philosophy added training in argument and ethics. The law degree then provided the procedural and substantive tools required in practice. Taken together, these elements inform his method of handling matters: listening to clients, dissecting problems into parts, and addressing practical options.
Colleagues describe him as straightforward and methodical. He tends to favor clear explanations over technical jargon. That approach can be useful for clients who need to understand choices quickly and act on them. In the office, he has handled intake, client counseling and the kinds of tasks younger lawyers commonly take on as they develop a practice. Those responsibilities often include drafting documents, preparing files for litigation or settlement, and maintaining client relationships over the life of a matter.
Balmuth has built his practice around the two offices listed in his early career record. He gained initial courtroom and file-management experience at Mesriani Law Group before moving to Free Legal Consultation. Over time he has focused on practical problem-solving rather than academic writing or doctrinal scholarship. He has not been publicly linked to major reported cases or academic posts in available records.
He currently practices at Free Legal Consultation, where he handles client matters from that office.
