About Mary
Mary Nerino grew up studying social behavior and law. She earned a B.S. in sociology from Pennsylvania State University – Abington in 2008, then took her legal degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2013. Those years shaped the practical side of her training as well as the theoretical.
Her first post-law school role was a Lawyer Fellow in the City of Alexandria Office of the Public Defender in 2013. That position placed her in courtrooms early and provided work on client intake, case preparation and trial-related tasks. The public defender role steered the trajectory of her early practice and offered front-line experience with courtroom procedure and client advocacy.
In 2014 she moved into private practice as a lawyer for Henson Pachuta Kammerman, PLLC. A year later she joined Price Benowitz LLP as an associate. At Price Benowitz she handled a range of cases and, over time, took on more responsibility for case strategy and client communication. In 2018 she became a partner at the firm, a change that broadened her administrative and supervisory duties while keeping her engaged in day-to-day legal work.
Her career path shows a steady progression from public service to firm-based practice and then to firm leadership. Colleagues describe her work as methodical and practice-oriented. She has experience across courtroom work and firm management, and she has been involved in supervising younger lawyers and coordinating case teams.
Outside of court and the office, Nerino’s background in sociology informs how she approaches client interviews and case assessment. She combines that perspective with the legal training she received at Washington and Lee, aiming to present thorough factual and legal analyses. Her time in both public defense and private firms gives her a broad view of how different parts of the legal system function.
Nerino maintains a practice in Virginia. She now operates under the name Mary Nerino Lawyer at Law, serving clients in Virginia.
