About Martha A.

Martha A. MacAloon followed an uncommon academic path into the law. She completed a Bachelor of Science at Boston College in 1974 and earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University in 1978 before turning to legal studies at DePaul College of Law, where she received her J.D. in 1984. Those years map a steady accumulation of professional training across two fields that often intersect in complex litigation.

After finishing law school, MacAloon built a practice centered in Illinois. She is authorized to practice in Illinois and is admitted to appear before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Her legal career has been anchored in the Chicago area, where she maintains an office and conducts court and client work in the city.

MacAloon has been an active member of professional organizations since the mid-1980s. She joined the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association in 1984, the same year she became affiliated with the American Association for Justice and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships have continued to the present. Participation in these groups has provided her with ties to both local and national legal communities.

Her association with organizations that support trial advocacy and civil justice work suggests a practice that engages with contested matters and courtroom procedure. Memberships in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice typically align with attorneys who handle litigation and trials. MacAloon’s professional affiliations place her among peers who litigate in state and federal courts.

Colleagues and clients have most often encountered MacAloon through her Chicago office. She has maintained a presence in that city for the bulk of her practice, handling filings, client consultations, and court appearances there. Her background includes formal training in the health professions followed by legal education, an educational combination that can be relevant in cases where medical and legal issues intersect.

Over more than four decades of membership in bar and trial organizations, MacAloon has sustained an active role in Illinois’ legal landscape. She currently practices in Illinois and remains admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, maintaining a Chicago office and concentrating her work on litigation in state and federal courts.
