About Marlon A.

Marlon A. Onias brought a nontraditional path to law school. He earned a B.A. from Saint Leo University in 1998 and later completed his J.D. at Florida A&M University College of Law in 2007. Those academic milestones bookend nearly a decade of public service and practical work experience that preceded and followed his legal training.

His early career included service in the United States Coast Guard in 1997 and later work as a police detective with the Newport News Virginia Police Department in 2002. He moved into education policy work in 2011, serving as a student advocate and policy writer for Orange County Public Schools. That mix of public safety, administrative and policy roles informed his transition to private practice. Since 2013 he has served as managing member of Onias Law, P.L., a firm based in Florida.

Onias maintains active membership in The Florida Bar and holds admissions to several federal courts. He is a member of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In 2023 he gained admission to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. These credentials allow him to handle matters that cross state and federal lines.

His work history gives him a practical perspective on investigative and administrative issues that can arise in litigation. Years in law enforcement familiarized him with evidence gathering and case development. Time spent on school policy exposed him to educational administration and regulatory frameworks. He has drawn on those experiences in representing clients and managing litigation and case strategy at his firm.

At Onias Law, P.L., he has overseen the firm’s operations and case intake since taking on a leadership role in 2013. That role has involved supervising client matters, coordinating filings in state and federal courts, and managing the administrative side of a law practice. He combines courtroom admissions with hands-on management of day-to-day legal work.

Onias lives and practices in Florida and appears in courts where he holds admission. He currently practices in Florida and in the federal courts where he is admitted.
