About Mark

Mark Russ joined Shouse Law Group in 2015 as a criminal defense lawyer and has worked at the firm's offices since then. He arrived at public defense through an interest in the courtroom and the mechanics of criminal procedure. Over the years he has built experience handling the procedural demands that come with criminal matters, from initial appearances to hearings and trials.

Early in his time at Shouse Law Group, Russ focused on mastering the nuts and bolts of criminal litigation. He became familiar with arraignments, bail hearings, discovery disputes and pretrial motions. He spent long hours drafting pleadings and preparing witnesses. He learned to set priorities in fast-moving dockets. The work required attention to detail and a steady presence in court. Colleagues say he is methodical in preparing cases and practical when addressing tactical choices.

Russ's practice encompasses a wide range of criminal defense matters. He has represented clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges and has worked on cases that involve evidentiary challenges, negotiation of plea terms, and trial advocacy. He also spends time addressing collateral issues that often accompany criminal cases, such as sentencing implications and post-conviction remedies. His caseload reflects the day-to-day demands of criminal defense practice at a regional firm.

In court he favors straightforward argumentation. He concentrates on the factual record and the applicable law. Outside the courtroom he focuses on client communication. He is known for explaining options plainly and for setting realistic expectations about outcomes. That approach helps clients understand tradeoffs, whether it concerns plea negotiations or the decision to pursue a trial. He also coordinates with investigators and expert witnesses when cases require further factual development.

Within Shouse Law Group, Russ participates in collaborative case work spanning multiple offices. He handles matters that require coordination among team members in the firm's various locations. This has brought regular courtroom travel and work across different jurisdictions. He remains active in cases at all stages, from intake through resolution.

After more than a decade in the field, Russ continues to work at Shouse Law Group as a criminal defense attorney. He currently focuses on defending individuals charged with state and federal criminal offenses at the firm.
