About Mark

Mark Krogstad began his legal journey in the Midwest and took a deliberate path into tax law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College in 2007, then completed his J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2010. He returned to school for an LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, awarded in 2012. The additional study gave him concentrated exposure to federal tax rules and the mechanics of tax planning.

After law school and the LL.M., Krogstad built a practice grounded in the technical side of tax matters and the practical needs of clients who face them. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and South Dakota. Those state admissions shape the regional work he handles and the regulatory contexts he navigates in day-to-day matters.

Krogstad’s work draws on his graduate training in taxation. He advises on federal tax issues and interprets statutes and regulations for business owners and individuals. He also helps clients understand tax compliance obligations. He approaches complex tax questions by breaking them into discrete issues, then addressing each with statutory and administrative authority.

He is on the roster of attorneys at Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, LLP. At the firm he collaborates with colleagues across practice areas when tax consequences intersect with corporate transactions, estate planning, and litigation. The firm setting gives him access to broader resources when multijurisdictional or multidisciplinary questions arise.

Outside of client work, Krogstad maintains professional memberships that keep him connected to peers and current developments in the field. Those memberships provide forums for continuing legal education and peer discussion. He has continued to update his knowledge since completing his LL.M., tracking changes in tax law and relevant administrative guidance.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in research and clear in client communications. He structures advice so nonlawyers can understand options and consequences. He balances technical analysis with practical steps clients can implement. His current practice concentrates on tax law and related matters.
