About Maria

Maria Sklar trained at Georgetown University Law Center, where she completed her legal studies before launching a career that spans two state bars. She earned her law degree in the nation’s capital and then moved into private practice, a path that exposed her to a range of civil and aviation matters early on. Her education provided a foundation in federal and state practice that she later translated into work across jurisdictions.

Sklar is admitted to practice in both Florida and New York. She has built a practice that reflects those dual admissions, handling matters that arise in each state and sometimes cross state lines. Early in her career she worked on cases that required an understanding of both state court procedure and federal regulatory frameworks, and she has continued to take on work that sits at that intersection.

Her involvement with professional groups includes a panel appointment from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. As an AOPA panel lawyer she works on issues tied to aviation operations, aircraft ownership, and related liability matters. That role places her among attorneys who represent pilots and aircraft owners on insurance, regulatory, and accident-related questions. The panel position informs how she approaches aviation files, bringing familiarity with industry practice and the specific concerns of aviators.

Sklar has spent most of her career in private practice. She founded Sklar Law to organize her caseload and provide a single point of contact for clients who require assistance in aviation and civil disputes. The firm handles a mix of transactional and litigation work, though the nature of any individual matter depends on the client’s needs and the forum in which a dispute arises. Her practice model emphasizes direct client communication and practical problem solving.

Colleagues describe her as methodical and straightforward in handling matters. She tends to break complex issues into manageable parts and to present options plainly so clients can make informed decisions. That working style aligns with the technical aspects of aviation law and the procedural demands of civil litigation in state and federal courts.

Outside of formal appointments she maintains professional contacts across Florida and New York, which helps when cases involve multiple jurisdictions or parties located in different states. She keeps current on changing rules that affect pilots and aircraft owners and follows developments in state court practice where her clients are most likely to bring claims.

She currently practices at Sklar Law, handling aviation-related and other civil matters across Florida and New York.
