About Marcia J.

Marcia J. Mavrides began her professional path in education before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1977 and completed her J.D. at New England Law | Boston in 1983. Those formative years set the stage for a career centered on family law and dispute resolution.

She moved quickly into practice after law school. In 1984 she was a lawyer-partner at Fixsen & Mavrides. Six years later she opened her own practice. Since 1990 she has practiced as a sole practitioner under the Law Offices of Marcia J. Mavrides and later as Mavrides Law. Her work has been based in Massachusetts, and she is admitted to practice in the First Circuit as well.

Her practice has long included family law matters. She holds a divorce mediation certification from the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation. That training supports mediation work, and she has maintained ties to local mediation circles since earning the credential. Colleagues and clients have known her for steady courtroom presence and for running mediation sessions aimed at resolving disputes outside trial.

Mavrides has been active in professional circles. She is a current member of the Massachusetts Council of Family Mediation and of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She also served for a quarter century in family law sections of local bar groups, belonging to both the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association family law sections from 1985 through 2010. Those affiliations reflect a long-term engagement with the practice community and with issues specific to family court procedures.

Her caseload has covered typical family law matters: divorce, custody and parenting plans, property division, and the array of ancillary issues that flow from separation. She has alternated between litigated matters in court and negotiated settlements at the bargaining table or in mediation. That range has allowed her to advise clients about risks and likely outcomes whether a case moves toward trial or toward alternative dispute resolution.

Today she continues to handle family law matters from her practice under the Mavrides name. She combines courtroom experience, mediation certification, and long-standing local bar involvement to represent clients and mediate family disputes in Massachusetts and before the First Circuit. Her current practice focuses on family law and divorce mediation.
