About Marc
Marc Mackenzie studied politics and history at the University of California, Santa Cruz and then earned his law degree from The George Washington University Law School. He took the conventional route through law school and into private practice, but his career has also included an entrepreneurial chapter.
He began his post-law school career as an associate at Hogan Lovells in 2011. After a year in that role he founded Smiling Dog Media in 2012, a venture that gave him experience running a small business and managing client relationships outside the usual law-firm structure. In 2014 he moved into a leadership role at Acorn Law, serving as managing lawyer and overseeing day-to-day practice operations.
Mackenzie is licensed to practice in California. He has pursued formal recognition of his practice area; he is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law through the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. That certification indicates he concentrates his work in matters connected to estates and trusts rather than in unrelated areas of law.
Over the years he has combined firm work and private enterprise, the two experiences informing how he runs a practice and advises clients. At Acorn Law P.C. he has overseen case intake, client counseling, and the administrative side of a small firm while continuing to handle individual matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical, preferring clear legal solutions over theoretical ones.
His written and courtroom work has been primarily in matters that arise after a death or where control of assets is at issue. He handles planning documents, trust administration, and probate proceedings. He also assists clients who need clarity around conservatorship and fiduciary duties.
Today he practices at Acorn Law P.C. in California, where his work centers on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
