About Marc Lowell
Marc Lowell Hughes is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1993. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Hughes is the owner of Hughes Law Group, a family law firm located in Sacramento, California. He has been practicing law for over thirty years, serving clients throughout Northern California.
Mr. Hughes earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated in 1992. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at St. Mary's College of California, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics in 1984. During his time at McGeorge, he received further legal training at the Inns of Court in London. Mr. Hughes has also completed over 300 hours in continuing education concerning family law subjects.
Mr. Hughes concentrates his practice in the area of family law, representing clients in matters involving divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, and domestic violence prevention. He has experience in all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. Throughout his career, Mr. Hughes has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Sacramento, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Notably, he represented a mother at the trial level in a child support action concerning the Uniform Interstate Support Act, resulting in a published opinion interpreting California Family Code §4009. Stone v. Davis (2007) 148 Cal.App.4th 596. Additionally, he co-authored a brief to the United States Supreme Court concerning the chilling effect of attorney's fee awards against victims of workplace sexual harassment.
Mr. Hughes is an active member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Placer County Bar Association, both Family Law Sections. He is also a member of the California State Bar Association's Family Law Section. In the community, he has served as a charter member and past president of the Rotary Club of Midtown Sacramento and is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Hughes is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Northern California effectively.
