About Marc A.

Marc A. Humphrey is an Iowa lawyer whose career stretches back to the late 1970s. He earned his law degree at Drake University Law School in 1979 after beginning studies there in 1977. Before that he attended Central College, where he completed a B.A. in business in 1976 following enrollment in 1972. Those academic milestones set the stage for decades of practice in civil litigation.

His training is complemented by professional certifications in medical negligence and personal injury conferred by the Iowa State Bar Association. Those certifications reflect the subjects that have occupied much of his courtroom work. He has also maintained long-term ties to trial lawyer organizations. He has been a member of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America since 1989 and lists another longstanding professional membership beginning in 1980. He served as president of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association from 1989 to 1990, a role that placed him in the middle of statewide conversations about trial practice and litigation strategy.

Humphrey built a practice handling claims for people harmed in accidents and in medical settings. He has worked on cases that require both factual investigation and coordination with medical experts. His courtroom work has involved motion practice and trials, where judges and juries evaluate complex evidence. Colleagues describe him as steady in litigation and persistent in pursuing case development, rather than flashy or promotional in approach.

Over the years he balanced casework with professional service. The presidency of a state trial lawyers association brought administrative duties and advocacy on issues that affect civil litigation. Long-standing membership in national and state trial organizations kept him connected to developments in evidence, procedure and damages law. Those ongoing connections allowed him to stay current on changes in how courts treat medical negligence and injury claims.

Into the 2020s Humphrey continued to represent injured clients in Iowa. His practice emphasizes thorough preparation, including fact gathering, evidence review and working with treating physicians. He has concentrated his courtroom efforts on resolving disputes through trial when appropriate and negotiating settlements when that outcome better serves a client. He focuses on medical negligence and personal injury matters.
