About Maksim
Maksim Tikhvinskiy earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2015. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and has been active in the state bar community since the year he finished law school. His early legal education in the United States followed several years practicing law in Moscow, where he began his career in the mid-2000s.
He first worked as a lawyer at Klishin & Partners in Moscow in 2006. Two years later he opened his own practice, operating as the Legal Office of Maksim Tikhvinskiy. Those years in Russia gave him first-hand courtroom experience and a chance to manage a private practice. They also exposed him to different procedural systems and client expectations than those he would encounter after moving his practice to the United States.
After completing his J.D. in 2015, Tikhvinskiy entered public service in Illinois. In 2016 he served as an assistant public defender at the Winnebago County Public Defender’s Office. That role placed him in front of trial judges and juries and involved direct client representation on a range of cases handled by the office. He then spent a year as an associate lawyer at Scott W. Sheen and Associates in 2017, working on matters typical of a small firm practice and gaining further courtroom and case-management experience.
In 2018 he established TIKHVINSKIY LAW LLC. As the principal of his own firm, he has overseen client intake, litigation strategy and the administrative responsibilities that come with running a practice. His firm is based in Illinois and is listed as his current office.
Tikhvinskiy maintains memberships in the State Bar of Illinois and the Illinois State Bar Association, where his membership record begins in 2015 and continues to the present. Those affiliations reflect his ongoing participation in the professional community and access to continuing legal education and local practice resources.
Colleagues and clients have noted his practical courtroom approach, shaped by experience in both public defense and private practice. He applies that experience to the cases his firm accepts and to the procedural work required in state courts. He currently practices through TIKHVINSKIY LAW, LLC and handles matters on behalf of clients in Illinois state courts.
