About M. Clay

M. Clay Martin went to the University of Alabama School of Law, entering in 1992 and earning his J.D. in 1995. He came out of law school into a region with a dense docket of civil disputes. That environment shaped the early years of his practice, when courtroom work and appellate filings often came in quick succession.

He is admitted to practice in Alabama and has credentials that reach beyond the state. He is also admitted to the United States Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit. Those admissions reflect a career that has moved between trial courts and appellate work. Courtroom appearances, briefs and oral argument have all been part of his routine for many years.

Martin’s involvement in the legal community runs through multiple organizations. He has served as president of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association. He sits on the executive committee of the Alabama Association for Justice. He has been a member of the American Association for Justice’s Board of Governors and has served as a state delegate to that group. He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and of the Alabama Law Foundation. He also serves as a bar commissioner and maintains active ties to regional bar activities.

Those positions have kept him connected to both practice and policy. The roles require work on governance, ethics and continuing legal education. They have also placed him alongside other lawyers who handle complex civil matters and appellate challenges. His peers have repeatedly turned to him for leadership within bar organizations, and he has taken committee work and association governance into his daily schedule.

He practices at Martin & Helms, P.C., where he brings those experiences into client matters. His work crosses state and federal lines and includes litigation in trial courts and filings in appellate courts. He continues to represent clients and to participate in professional organizations that shape practice standards in Alabama and beyond.

He currently practices at Martin & Helms, P.C., handling litigation in state and federal courts.
