About M. Bryan
M. Bryan King earned his law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law. He trained in Durham and returned to eastern North Carolina to build a practice. His time at law school shaped his interest in the court system and in client work that touches everyday life.
King joined Haithcock, Barfield, Hulse & King, PLLC as an associate lawyer in 2014. He spent the next several years developing casework and learning the mechanics of practice at a regional firm. In 2019 he moved into a managing lawyer role at the same firm. In that position he took on oversight of the office and helped guide junior attorneys while continuing to handle his own matters.
Professionally, King has kept an active presence in state and local associations. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Wayne County Bar Association, both since 2014. He joined the National Academy of Elder Law Lawyers in 2021. Since 2022 he has served on the Local Advisory Board for Legal Aid of North Carolina. Those affiliations place him in regular contact with colleagues across practice areas and with organizations that work to expand legal services in the state.
King’s practice covers elder law, estate planning and related probate matters. He works with families to sort out long-term care concerns and estate administration. Clients encounter him in cases that involve Medicaid planning, guardianship questions and the practical steps of transferring assets or settling estates after death. He is known in his community for a straightforward style. He explains options plainly, maps out next steps and attends routine hearings when matters go to court.
Courtroom appearances and office counseling are part of his weekly work. He balances case management and client meetings with the administrative duties of running a small office. Colleagues describe him as steady in handling case follow-through and attentive to procedural detail.
He maintains memberships that keep him connected to developments in elder law and to statewide bar activities. He also contributes time to Legal Aid through the Local Advisory Board, which advises on delivery of services to low-income residents.
King practices at Haithcock, Barfield, Hulse & King, PLLC, where he handles elder law, estate planning and probate matters and remains active in bar and community organizations.
