About Liza-Jane

Liza-Jane Capatos combined a liberal arts undergraduate education with a law degree to build a career that moves between the classroom and practical legal preparation. She earned her B.A. from the University of California, Davis, and later received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law. Those academic roots have guided her toward work that centers on training and preparing the next generation of lawyers.

After law school she returned to academia in a leadership role. She is the Assistant Director of the Office of Academic & Bar Success at Santa Clara University School of Law and serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Law. In those positions she oversees programs that help students navigate law school coursework and the bar examination. Her job combines administrative oversight, program development, and direct teaching.

Colleagues and students know her for a practical approach to legal education. In the classroom and clinic, she manages experiences that place students in real-world tasks while also addressing the study skills and exam techniques needed for professional licensing. That dual emphasis—on practice and preparation—shapes how the office designs workshops, mentoring, and study plans.

Her professional admissions include the State Bar of Arizona and admission to the United States District Court. Those credentials enable her to speak to both state licensure pathways and federal court admission procedures from a place of practical familiarity. She draws on that perspective when advising students thinking about bar strategies and early career decisions.

Outside of administrative and teaching duties, she maintains membership in professional organizations that align with her work. Her ongoing association with the State Bar of Arizona reflects a continuing engagement with the bar community and its standards. She also participates in events and programs that bring law students into contact with practicing lawyers and bar exam resources.

She is based at Santa Clara University School of Law, where her responsibilities remain tied to academic success and clinical instruction. Her work sits at the intersection of legal training and licensure preparation. She concentrates on academic support and bar preparation for law students.
