About Lesley B

Lesley B Foss built a legal path that crosses state lines and courtrooms. She studied international politics at Georgetown University, earning a B.S. in 2000, and went on to complete her J.D. at the University of North Dakota in 2006. Those formative years combined a broad view of public policy with intensive legal training.

Her early career moved quickly from classrooms to courtrooms. After law school she served as a law clerk in the Minnesota 9th Judicial District for Judge Michael Kraker in 2006. That first clerkship offered close exposure to trial-level procedure and judicial decision-making. She then practiced in private law in Minot, North Dakota, in 2007. A return to the 9th Judicial District followed in 2008, when she clerked for Judge Tamara Yon. Each position sharpened her research and writing skills and deepened her familiarity with regional courts.

In 2010 Foss shifted to public work at the Fargo Regional Child Support Unit. There she handled matters tied to support enforcement and client advocacy in family law contexts. The role placed her in frequent contact with parents, custodial caregivers and state agencies. It also required steady courtroom appearances and an ability to manage a heavy docket of support-related cases.

Foss is admitted to practice in both Minnesota and North Dakota. She maintains memberships in the Cass County Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is also active in the Family Law Section of the State Bar Association of North Dakota. Those affiliations reflect the practical and professional networks she has relied on throughout her career.

Her work history — alternating between clerkships, private practice and public service — gives her a rounded view of the legal system. She knows how judges at the district level think, how private attorneys manage client matters, and how state units pursue enforcement. That combination matters in family law and support work, where procedural detail and human circumstance intersect.

Foss continues to practice law in the region. Her recent experience centers on child support and family law matters, and she represents clients and agencies in those areas in Minnesota and North Dakota.
