About Lee

Lee Runyan took an unconventional path into law. He studied computer science as an undergraduate, then turned to legal studies at the University of Denver. He earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2013 after completing undergraduate work in computer science at Regis University.

He began gaining practical courtroom and office experience while still in law school. In 2014 he worked as a law clerk at Bruno, Collin and Lowe, handling routine research and drafting that supported trial preparation. That same year he served as a legal intern and research assistant for the Independence Institute, working with public-policy scholar Dave Kopel on legal research projects. In 2015 he took on roles as a student lawyer at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, a hands-on clinical position that placed him in direct client representation and courtroom settings. In 2016 he served as a student intern with the 11th Judicial District District Lawyer’s Office, where he observed and assisted on prosecutorial and courtroom procedures.

Those early positions gave him a breadth of exposure across litigation, research, and public-policy work. The combination of a technical undergraduate background and law-school clinical experience shaped how he approaches legal problems. He tends to parse complex factual matrices carefully. He also values clear written work, a skill sharpened during research assistant assignments and law clerk duties.

Runyan’s training bridges technology and law. That makes him comfortable with technical documentation and the procedural demands of litigation. He has handled research-heavy matters and participated in client interviews and hearings while still a student. Employers and supervisors from his clerkships relied on him for organized case files and concise memoranda.

After graduating, he continued to build on that foundation in Colorado. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and has worked in roles that involve courtroom work and legal research. He has remained active in legal circles in the state and maintains professional memberships.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and clear in his written work. He tends to break down problems into discrete steps and plans litigation tasks in measurable stages. Outside the courtroom he brings the problem-solving habits of a former computer science student to the practice of law.

He currently practices in Colorado, where his work emphasizes litigation support, legal research, and client representation in state matters.
