About Lawrence P.

Lawrence P. Maya earned both his undergraduate and law degrees at Loyola University Chicago. He completed a Bachelor of Arts before returning to Loyola University Chicago School of Law for his Juris Doctor. Those formative years in Chicago shaped his entry into the legal profession and anchored his ties to Illinois courts.

He began his legal career in 1999 as an associate at Sandman, Levy & Petrich. There he handled client matters that introduced him to courtroom practice and procedural work. The early months and years at that firm provided exposure to litigation and firm operations, and they set the stage for his move into partnership.

In 2002 he joined Stone & Maya, P.C. as a partner. That role has defined the middle and later portions of his career. As partner he has been responsible for case management, client counseling and supervising litigation teams. The partnership title reflects long-term involvement in firm leadership and day-to-day practice rather than a short-term appointment.

Maya is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the Federal Circuit. He maintains active membership in the State Bar of Illinois and holds a standing with the Northern District of Illinois. He also holds a Lead Counsel rating from the Lead Counsel Review Board. Those credentials mark formal recognition by professional bodies and federal admission beyond state practice.

Colleagues describe his approach as steady and procedural. He tends to favor thorough preparation and careful courtroom presentation. He has navigated both trial dockets and regulatory filings, and he has supervised associates and support staff during multi-party matters. He has also managed appeals work that required attention to briefing and appellate procedure.

Maya’s career shows continuity. He stayed in Chicago for his schooling, began his professional life at a local firm, and has practiced in the same jurisdictional landscape for decades. The arc from associate to partner is clear. His peers see him as an experienced member of the Illinois bar who has maintained federal admissions while handling firm responsibilities.

He practices out of Stone & Maya, P.C., where he continues to handle matters that arise in state and federal courts. His current practice focuses on matters arising in federal and state courts.
