About Lawrence J.
Lawrence J. Bohana earned his undergraduate degree in history from California State University, Los Angeles before attending the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he received his J.D. The education set a foundation for a career that spans public defense, corporate counsel, and decades of courtroom practice.
He began his legal career as a deputy public defender in Los Angeles County in 1975. That role placed him in front of juries and judges early on and introduced him to high-pressure courtroom work. In the early 1980s he moved into private practice, serving as an associate at the law office of Burke Williams and Sorensen in 1982, and later at Hill, Even, Crandal & Wade in 1987. He returned to in-house work mid-decade as general counsel for California Life Insurance Company in 1985, handling matters that combined corporate and regulatory issues.
The 1990s and 2000s saw him take senior trial positions at two major insurance companies. He worked as a senior trial lawyer for State Farm Insurance Company in 1993 and later held a senior trial lawyer role at Mercury Insurance Company in 2003. Those positions further entrenched his experience in insurance-related litigation and trial advocacy. Across those roles he litigated civil cases, managed defense strategies, and handled coverage disputes in state courts.
Bohana’s résumé reflects both public-sector and private-sector litigation. He has tried cases as a prosecutor of defense in the public defender’s office and as lead counsel for insurers. He has experience in the daily demands of in-house counsel work as well. That mix gives him familiarity with the different pressures that clients and insurers place on lawyers, and it shaped his approach to case preparation and courtroom presentation.
Today he practices from the Law Office Of Lawrence J. Bohana. He maintains professional memberships and continues to draw on decades of trial experience. He represents clients in civil litigation, including matters that arise from insurance disputes and other trial-level controversies. His current practice centers on civil litigation and insurance-defense matters.
