About Lawrence G.

Lawrence G. Walters earned a B.A. in Communications and Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida in 1985, then completed his J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 1988. His academic background paired communications training with legal coursework, a combination that has shaped much of his public-facing work.

Early in his career he established a practice that reached beyond state court. He is admitted to practice in Florida and before several federal appellate courts, including the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, the D.C. Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions reflect a long history of handling matters that cross jurisdictional lines and sometimes require appellate advocacy.

Walters has been active in professional associations tied to his areas of practice. He has been involved with the First Amendment Lawyers Association since 1994 and has served in leadership roles there, including as national chairman and as the association’s president. He is also a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a connection that links him to criminal defense practitioners across the state.

In 2003 he helped establish ties to the international gaming-law community. He is a founding member of the International Masters of Gaming Law and has maintained that affiliation, reflecting an interest in the regulatory and litigation issues that surround gaming businesses and their governance.

His work crosses several substantive lines. Over time he has handled First Amendment questions, regulatory and compliance matters tied to gaming, and criminal-defense issues. The combination of those fields means his files can include free-speech disputes, licensing and regulatory challenges, and cases that began in state criminal courts.

He practices from Walters Law Group, where he manages client matters and oversees litigation strategy. Colleagues and opposing counsel describe him as someone who relies on written briefs and oral argument to press legal points. He has taken part in appellate litigation and has prepared filings for courts at different levels when a matter requires review beyond the trial court.

His current practice concentrates on First Amendment litigation, gaming-regulatory matters and criminal defense.
