About Lauren G

Lauren G. Klein built a career that moves between courtroom work, teaching and periodic public service. She combines long stretches at law firms with years of solo practice and pro bono work. The result is a steady record of litigation work across state and federal courts.

She studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Fine Arts, and continued to New York University School of Law for her J.D. Her academic background set a foundation in both analytical thinking and written advocacy, skills she would use throughout a varied career.

Klein began her legal practice as a litigation associate at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in 1982, returning there again in 1987. In between and after, she worked at other New York firms, including a stint at Schlam, Stone & Dolan in 1990. Early in her career she moved into the federal courthouse when she served as the first clerk to Judge Edward R. Korman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in 1985. That clerkship exposed her to a wide array of federal litigation issues and federal court procedure.

She also has experience in legal education. In 1989 she served as an adjunct legal writing instructor at Brooklyn Law School. Teaching legal writing sharpened her drafting and editing habits and informed the way she approaches briefs and pleadings.

Klein’s public service includes periodic volunteer work and pro bono matters. In 2003 she acted as a pro bono lawyer in Massachusetts probate court. In 2007 she volunteered at A Safe Place on a periodic basis and that same year accepted an appointment through the Criminal Justice Act to represent a habeas petitioner in the Eastern District of New York. Those assignments reflect hands-on courtroom representation and appellate or post-conviction practice skills.

Since 2007 she has operated as a solo practitioner under the Law Office of Lauren G. Klein. Her admissions include practice in New York and Massachusetts, and appearances in the U.S. Supreme Court and the Second Circuit. Over decades of practice she has moved between firm-based litigation roles and individual practice, carrying litigation tasks across state and federal forums.

Her current work is conducted from her solo office, where she handles litigation matters and represents clients in matters arising in her admitted jurisdictions. She maintains a private practice through the Law Office of Lauren G. Klein, focusing on litigation across the courts where she is admitted.
