About Lauralyn

Lauralyn Cabanilla is a attorney based in Provo, Utah, with over 30 years of experience in various areas of law. Reuben Clark Law School in 1994. Prior to that, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in English from the same institution in 1986. Her academic journey was complemented by her service in the U.S.

Army Reserve, where she made history as the only female cadet in BYU's ROTC program at that time. In 2010, Cabanilla was deployed to the Middle East as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Her service took her to Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain, where she gained inexperience in leadership and resilience. After more than 30 years of dedicated military service, she retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in January 2012. This extensive background in the military has significantly shaped her approach to law, instilling a strong sense of discipline and commitment. Following her military career, Cabanilla transitioned to the legal field, taking on the role of a prosecutor with the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

During her tenure there, she handled numerous high-profile criminal cases, honing her skills in litigation and courtroom strategy. In 2000, she joined Esplin & Weight, where she has since become a partner and co-owner of the firm’s historic building. Her practice primarily focuses on family law, criminal defense, and personal injury cases, providing comprehensive legal support to her clients. Beyond her legal practice, Cabanilla has made significant contributions to her community. She completed a four-year term on the Provo City Council, where she played a vital role in the revitalization of Provo's downtown area. Additionally, she served on the Provo City Records Appeals Board, participating in decisions that impact public records access.

Her community involvement supports her public service and her desire to improve the lives of those around her. Cabanilla is an active member of the Utah State Bar and has received recognition for her contributions to the legal field. She authored "A Handbook to Divorce in Utah," a valuable resource provided to clients during initial consultations. Outside of her professional life, she is married to Dave Cabanilla, an airline pilot and local land developer. Together, they have four children, including triplets, and six grandchildren. Lauralyn Cabanilla's experience, military background, and community engagement make her a dedicated and knowledgeable attorney, committed to serving her clients and enriching her community.
