About Laura R.

Laura R. Shattuck earned her J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1999 after completing a B.A. in political science at Loyola University New Orleans in 1991. Early in her post-law school training she attended the ABA-NITA Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, a program that sharpened courtroom technique and reinforced trial procedure in family law matters. Those academic steps set the foundation for a practice centered in Connecticut courts.

Her career has been closely tied to the Connecticut judiciary. She is admitted to practice in Connecticut and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. Over time she has taken on roles assigned by the courts, serving as a Special Master for Family Matters in both the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk at Stamford and the Judicial District of Fairfield at Bridgeport. In those positions she has managed court-appointed tasks in family proceedings and worked directly with judges and parties to move cases toward resolution.

Shattuck maintains memberships in several professional organizations. She holds current memberships in the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and the Fairfield County Bar Association. She is also a participant in the Connecticut Judicial Branch Stamford Family Volunteer Lawyer Program, which pairs volunteer lawyers with family law litigants who need representation or guidance. Outside the courtroom she has been involved with local nonprofit work and has served on the board of the March of Dimes Fairfield County Division.

Her practice draws on trial training and hands-on experience in family courts. Attendance at the ABA-NITA Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute provided focused trial preparation, and her work as a court-appointed special master has required repeated handling of contested family matters. She is comfortable in hearings, settlement conferences and contested proceedings where factual development and procedural control are central to outcomes.

Colleagues describe her approach as practical and grounded in courtroom realities rather than in formal advocacy language. She balances negotiation and litigation depending on the needs of each case and the directives of the presiding judge. She currently represents clients in a range of family law matters, including custody, support, divorce proceedings and ancillary disputes, and continues to practice in Connecticut state and federal courts.
