About Lance
Lance Caughfield built his path to the law through a mix of study and courtroom experience. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science from Abilene Christian University in 1986 and completed his J.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. A year after law school he served as an intern at the Supreme Court of Texas, an early exposure to appellate work that would recur throughout his career.
Caughfield entered private practice as an associate at Fletcher & Springer, LLP in 1996. He rose to partner at that firm in 2001, handling a range of civil litigation matters. In 2008 he joined Kelsoe, Khoury, Rogers, Caughfield & Clark, PC as of counsel and became a partner there in 2010. His resume shows steady progression through law firm ranks over more than two decades.
He is licensed to practice in Texas and has appeared in multiple federal courts, including the Northern, Western, Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization certified him in Civil Appellate Law, a credential that signals specific training and examination in appeals practice rather than trial work alone.
Professional associations have been part of Caughfield’s practice life. He maintained membership in the Defense Research Institute from 1996 through 2008 and was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association from 2004 through 2007. Those affiliations reflect participation in national and regional professional networks during periods when he was active in civil litigation and defense work.
Caughfield’s docket history and certification suggest an emphasis on appellate matters and federal litigation. Colleagues describe him as experienced in briefing and arguing appeals and in managing complex procedural issues that arise in multi-district disputes. He has navigated both state and federal appellate rules in cases before the Fifth Circuit and in state appellate courts.
He currently practices at Kelsoe, Khoury, Rogers, Caughfield & Clark, PC. His practice centers on civil appellate work and federal litigation.
