About Kyle

Kyle Watkins earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law in 2012 after completing undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University in 2005. His education paired classroom study with time in courts and clinics. Those early experiences shaped how he approaches evidence and courtroom work today.

He began his public service as a felony prosecutor in the Harris County District Lawyer's office in 2017. There he handled a range of serious criminal matters. The prosecutorial role gave him regular exposure to trial practice, grand jury proceedings and motion work. It also meant working closely with investigators and victim advocates on often difficult cases.

Later in 2017 he shifted to defense work at the Law Offices of Kyle Watkins, PLLC. He moved from charging decisions to defending people accused of crimes. That change gave him a view of the criminal justice system from both sides. He represents clients at arraignments, hearings and trials. He appears in state courts across Texas and holds admission in the Fifth Circuit for federal appellate matters.

Watkins maintains training in standardized field sobriety testing through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That certification informs how he reviews DUI investigations and the science presented in court. He pays close attention to how tests are administered, how reports are compiled and how evidence will play before a judge or jury.

Professionally he is active in bar and defense organizations. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Bell County Young Lawyers Association since 2017 and is a member of the Bell County Bar Association. He belongs to the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those memberships provide regular access to trial practice resources, continuing legal education and peer discussion of evolving criminal law issues.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom and methodical when preparing cases. He favors clear written motions and thorough witness preparation. He balances negotiation and trial strategy depending on what a case requires.

He manages matters from initial charge through post-trial motion practice. He also handles appeals within the Fifth Circuit where appropriate. He continues to practice criminal defense at the Law Offices of Kyle Watkins, PLLC and represents clients in Texas state courts and in matters that reach the Fifth Circuit.
