About Kyle

Kyle Pendergrass graduated from the University of Washington in 2003. He entered the world of intellectual property law after finishing his studies and moved quickly into work that married technical subject matter with legal analysis.

His first professional position after graduation was at the United States Patent & Trademark Office, where he served as a patent examiner beginning in 2004. That role gave him early exposure to patent prosecution, claim drafting, and the procedures that govern examination. It also provided a close look at how patentability is evaluated across a range of technologies.

In 2005 he joined Cooley LLP as a patent lawyer and agent and began practicing as a trademark lawyer and IP litigator. At Cooley he worked on both the prosecution side and on dispute matters, representing clients in counseling and adversarial settings. The move marked a transition from government work to private practice and to the broader demands of client representation in intellectual property matters.

By 2011 Pendergrass was practicing at Pendergrass & Tietsworth, LLP, where his listed roles included patent lawyer, trademark lawyer, and IP litigator. His resume shows a steady progression through roles that required both technical understanding and courtroom or litigation strategy. Colleagues and file histories reflect work across patent preparation, trademark clearance and registration, and the defense and assertion of IP rights.

Pendergrass’s background as a former examiner informs how he approaches patent prosecution. He tends to anticipate examiner concerns and to frame claims and arguments with that perspective in mind. He also draws on his experience at a large firm to manage multifaceted disputes and coordinate with outside counsel when cases involve parallel matters or multiple jurisdictions.

He maintains an office at The Executive Complex. As of 2026 he continues to practice intellectual property law, concentrating on patent and trademark matters and on IP litigation.
