About Kurt

Kurt Maahs began his legal path at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law, where he completed his law degree in 1994. He entered the profession at a time when regional practice often meant building ties across state lines. That early education remains a touchstone for his approach to casework and practice management.

He has practiced in multiple state courts over the years. Maahs is admitted to practice in Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. That range of admissions reflects a career spent handling matters that cross jurisdictional lines and coordinating representation for clients with multi-state issues.

Maahs serves as the Arizona Managing Partner and lawyer for Sweet James Accident Lawyers. In that role he oversees the firm’s Arizona operations, supervises case teams and handles litigation. Managing partner duties add an administrative layer to his caseload, requiring a mix of courtroom time and office leadership.

His work at Sweet James has involved collaborating with attorneys in other offices and adapting strategies to differing state procedures. He has experience organizing discovery, negotiating on behalf of clients and presenting cases in state courts. Those tasks demand both attention to detail and an ability to move between practical courtroom work and the logistical side of handling multiple files at once.

Maahs is active in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Sandra Day O’Connor American Inn of Court, participates in the Arizona Association for Justice and serves on the Arizona Bar Association’s Peer Review Committee. That committee role involves evaluating professional standards and contributing to the bar’s process for handling peer evaluations.

Outside the office he splits time between case preparation and administrative responsibilities. He works with colleagues across the firm’s locations to ensure consistent client communication and legal strategy. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and methodical in file preparation.

Today he leads the Arizona office of Sweet James Accident Lawyers and continues to practice across the five states where he is licensed. He handles accident and personal injury matters and manages the firm’s Arizona practice operations, representing clients in cases that often involve cross-jurisdictional issues.
