About Kurt

Kurt Holzer has spent more than three decades in courtrooms and conference rooms across Idaho. He began his legal education at Mesa State College, earning a B.A. in Selected Studies with an emphasis in political economy in 1989, and completed his J.D. at the University of Utah in 1992. A clerkship with the Utah Court of Appeals under Presiding Judge Judith M. Billings followed immediately after law school and shaped his early view of appellate and trial procedure.

Holzer moved into private practice in 1993 as a trial lawyer with Holland & Hart LLP. That first position placed him in high-stakes litigation early in his career. By 2000 he was serving as Chief Idaho Trial Lawyer at Murphy, Holzer & Vaughan, LLC, a role that expanded his trial docket and management responsibilities. In 2004 he became a shareholder at Holzer-Edwards, Chtd., and in 2017 he joined Hepworth Holzer, LLP as a partner, where he continues to try cases and advise clients.

He is licensed to practice in Idaho and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho. The record shows long-term courtroom practice, including jury trials and complex civil matters. Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prepares thoroughly and prefers direct argument over theatrical flourishes. He has handled matters that required sustained litigation strategies and evidence management.

Holzer’s involvement in bar and trial organizations runs parallel to his private practice. He served on the Professional Conduct Board of the Idaho State Bar from 1999 to 2019, and he was a commissioner of the Idaho State Bar from 2019 to 2022. He has been active in the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association for many years, serving as its president in 2004–2005 and later taking the co-chairmanship of the Governmental Relations Committee beginning in 2007 and continuing in that role.

Throughout his career he has balanced trial work and organizational service. He has moved from a judicial clerkship to large-firm practice, then to leadership positions in smaller firms and now partnership at Hepworth Holzer, LLP. His background combines litigation experience, bar governance, and sustained involvement in trial lawyer networks.

He remains an active trial lawyer and partner at Hepworth Holzer, LLP, where his practice centers on civil litigation and trial work in state and federal courts in Idaho.
