Kurt D. Hermansen is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1993. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Hermansen is a partner at his own law firm, located in San Diego, California. He has been practicing law for over 32 years, serving clients throughout the San Diego area and beyond.

Mr. Hermansen earned his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, graduating in 1993. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Los Angeles, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. During his time at Loyola Law School, he was involved in various legal clinics and externships, gaining practical experience in criminal defense and appellate law.

Mr. Hermansen concentrates his practice in the areas of criminal defense, appeals, and habeas corpus. He represents individuals in state and federal criminal trials, handling cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including pre-trial motions, trial proceedings, post-conviction appeals, and habeas corpus petitions. He has argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the California Court of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hermansen has been recognized for his expertise in criminal law. He has been a Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization since 2009. Additionally, he has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in criminal law in San Diego every year from 2008 to the present. He has also served as the chair of the Criminal Law Advisory Commission for the State Bar of California.

Mr. Hermansen is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the California Lawyers for Criminal Justice, the San Diego County Bar Association, the Tom Homman Law Association (San Diego’s LGBT Law Association), the National Lawyers Guild, and the American Civil Liberties Union. He is also a member of the UCLA Alumni Association. He is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
