About Kristine
Kristine Honiotes took a conventional academic route into law, earning a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002 and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 2005. Her education set the stage for a career grounded in local courts and community institutions. She returned to Will County as a practicing lawyer and has remained active in regional legal circles since.
Early in her career Honiotes became involved in criminal justice work. She holds memberships in the Illinois State Bar Association, where she serves on the Criminal Justice Section Council and acts as its Continuing Legal Education Coordinator. She also participates on the association’s Standing Committee on Corrections and Sentencing. Those roles reflect an interest in sentencing policy, court procedures and alternatives to imprisonment rather than a narrow trial-focused practice.
Much of her community and professional energy has been concentrated in Will County. She is an active member of the Will County Bar Association and its Criminal Committee, a role she has held since 2006. She has served as a mentor through the association since 2014. Her involvement there includes numerous presentations aimed at court officials, attorneys and treatment providers. Topics have included the Will County Drug and Veterans Court, drug testing procedures, Second Chance Probation, Adult Redeploy Illinois and how to obtain substance-abuse treatment for clients. Those presentations underscore a practical interest in diversion programs and structured supervision.
Her work in local bar groups extends to the Will County Women’s Bar Association, where she has been a member since 2014 and served as vice president in 2017. Outside the bar, Honiotes has taken leadership roles in civic organizations. She was president of the Joliet Junior Woman’s Club from 2016 to 2017. She also participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties as a mentor from 2014 through 2017.
Honiotes practices through Honiotes Law Office, LTD., a firm that places her in the courts and agencies of Illinois. Her practice reflects the themes present in her association work: criminal justice matters, alternatives to incarceration and the intersection of legal advocacy with treatment and supervision programs. She continues to handle matters in Illinois and to contribute time to CLE presentations and mentoring within her community and bar associations.
Her current practice centers on criminal justice cases and related proceedings in Illinois.
