About Kristin R.
Kristin R. Brown built a career at the intersection of trial work, forensic science and appellate practice. She began her academic path with a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2009. She went on to study forensic science at the University of Florida and completed a master’s program there in 2014. That same interest in forensic and behavioral evidence led to a master’s in forensic psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2016. Brown also pursued advanced legal training, earning an LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from Temple University Beasley School of Law and a J.D. from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
Early in her legal training she worked in both county and federal settings. She served as a law clerk at Gibbs, Nolte, Robison, and Rose, PLLC in 2010 and spent 2011 as a federal judicial intern to the Hon. Amos Mazzant in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Sherman Division. While in law school she held internships with Collin County’s Appellate and Misdemeanor Divisions and with the Capital Trials Division in Harris County. Those placements gave her courtroom exposure at multiple levels and experience with serious criminal matters.
Brown established her own practice and has been the managing lawyer of The Law Office of Kristin R. Brown, PLLC since 2013. Her practice has included trial work, direct appeals and federal filings. She is admitted to practice in Texas and to several federal and appellate courts, including the Northern District of Texas, the Eastern District of Texas, the District of Nebraska, the Fifth and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
She holds board certifications from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Criminal Law (Trials) and in Criminal Appellate Law. Brown completed the Trial Lawyers College program in July 2014 and remains active in that community. She is also a certified mediator in Texas and a practitioner of standardized field sobriety testing through training with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Professional involvement has been a steady part of her career. She has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2015 and belongs to statewide and local criminal defense organizations in Texas. Within the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association she has served on the board as Associate Director for 2016–17 and as a Director since 2017. She has also held board roles in local associations in Dallas and Collin County and holds membership in NORML.
Her background in forensic science and trial advocacy underpins courtroom strategy and appellate argument. She represents clients in criminal matters at trial and on appeal and continues to practice criminal defense and appellate law in Texas and in several federal courts.
