About Kristi L.
Kristi L. Browne built a foundation in the humanities before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of South Dakota in 1984 and received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1987. Those years shaped a careful approach to language and argument. They also set the stage for a long career in Illinois and federal courts.
Browne entered practice after law school and over time secured admission across a range of jurisdictions. Her credentials include admission in Illinois and to the Illinois Supreme Court. She is admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Central District of Illinois, and the Northern District of Indiana. She is also a member of the Federal Trial Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Those admissions have allowed her to handle matters at both trial and appellate levels.
Her work has been centered in private practice. She is associated with The Patterson Law Office, LLC, where she has handled litigation and related matters. Colleagues describe a lawyer who thinks carefully about pleadings and develops case strategies over time. She favors clear writing and careful preparation. Courtroom work and brief writing are regular parts of her professional life.
Browne maintains memberships in several professional organizations. She belongs to the Lesbian Gay Bar Association of Chicago and the Chicago Bar Association. She also holds memberships in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Illinois State Bar Association. Participation in these organizations has connected her to colleagues across practice areas and jurisdictions and to continuing legal education opportunities.
Outside specific casework, Browne’s training in English and philosophy informs how she frames issues and structures arguments. She is comfortable in federal court and state court and in appellate proceedings. Clients and fellow attorneys encounter a practitioner who emphasizes precision in pleadings and clarity in oral advocacy. She currently practices at The Patterson Law Office, LLC and focuses on litigation in state and federal courts.
